Spooky Stalks Haunted Cornfield
Read review by lysergicerberus who went on October 13th, 2007 at 9:00 PM

Signage/Visibilty/ Location
If you print directions, it's very easy to find. It's right off the freeway on the right side. Look for some strobe lights and a big
glowing ghost. Parking is on the street. Be sure to check out the front yard display on the way up the driveway.
Waiting Area/ Line Entertainment
Ok, I told this to Bruce, co-owner/operator, last night and I think he didn't believe me. The wait area is FANTASTIC! Few haunts
take the time to really create an atmosphere in the wait area, but Spooky Stalks has. You won't find concessions or fancy effects
or even death metal. You will find simple displays, mood-setting music and the greenhouse warming effect. It didn't cost much,
but it took time and thought. To me that goes a long way. I feel that true hauntlovers will appreciate this wait area. If you do, be
sure to tell the young lady at the ticket booth, for it was her creation.
Most Unique
2 unique items for this review. 1) The vortex. Yeah, ok, lots of haunts are doing the vortex now, but not like this. These guys built
it from scratch!! Not only that, but it's highly effective compared to most vortex tunnels I've seen. I'm not sure why, but it REALLY
screws with your equilibrium. Very cool! 2) Humble beginnings. This event started out as a home haunt, a yard display. Over the
course of about 3 years, this simple family haunt became the "medium scare" Spooky Stalks(elaboration on "medium scare"
below). This venue is unique in its own rights, being both isolated and eerily dark and quiet. This is MILWAUKEE mind you, not
West Bend or Cascade. Just an awesome haunt, period.
Actors' Performance
The actors varied in age and experience. They aren't drama students or seasoned veteran actors, but they have a lot of heart and
a desire to give you a scare. These guys are friends of the owners. In fact, one guy came to help out one night and loved it so
much, he keeps showing up every Saturday (Big Mike-he'll get you GOOD!). Costumes and masks are great. Even the young
actors in the field can give you a startle. I was very impressed.
Additional Comments
Spooky Stalks is listed as a "medium scare". To some, it may be, to others...it could very well make your skin crawl. I'm giving it a
'high scare' due to my experience last night. This isn't Splatter Haus scary, but it certainly deserves the credit of having scare
skills. I'd like to thank Bruce and the entire team at Spooky Stalks for their hospitality and for a fun night. Please go out and
support this haunt! They have put some serious time, money and effort into it and you will not be disappointed.

Signage/ Visibility/ Location
Go off the directions on the website. It is really easy
to find. Appleton Ave and Hwy 45. the front yard is
lite up as a graveyard and there is someone waiting
for you at the driveway.
Waiting Area/ Line Entertainment
you wait in a greenhouse. there is music going and
it is really spooky in there. you dont know what is
real and what isnt.
Most Unique
i like the vortex tunnel the most. it just seems like
they put some effort into making it.
Actors' Performance
they were really great!! i have seen some that i
really didnt know if they were real or not...that is
until they jumped out at me and scared me.
Additional Comments
the effort that was put into this haunt was great.
there are actors of all sizes, that can get you going.
(you might want to use the port-o-john before going
into the greenhouse).

I didn't know what to expect when we went to the
Haunted Cornfield, and it was GREAT! It was nothing
like I expected. It was great seeing that children are
involved in the haunt as well. The scene setting is out
of this world and all the fun tricks they have is totally
unreal that it would be in a haunted cornfield.

I want to add that the characters in the field and out are
great! Having the children in the cornfield is pretty
creepy. You aren't expecting to see these little people
running around and scaring you, but there was one
that just scared the pants off me. It was close to the
clown area. He/She stayed in complete character the
whole time. Mad Props!!

Summary
Don't miss out on one of the best haunts of the year!
Worth the time!

This was a very fun and scary haunted cornfield. The
characters were very creepy and were in the perfect
spots to scare people. Just when you think you can
take a breath and relax a little, BAM! someone is there
to scare the crap out of you again. You definately
know that a place is scary when someone from the
group before you is crying at the end because they
were so scared. I especially liked the extra rooms that
they had placed throughout the field, that always
makes it more freaky. I also thought the jeepers
creepers truck was very cool. Just an idea that I had is
that they should try and incorporate more of the
movie in the field. Like having someone dress up like
the jeepers creepers guy and put him on a wood post
like a scarcrow (like in the beginning of jeepers
creepers 2). I also greatly appreciated that they
spaced everyone out so well. It always seems to ruin
the fun when you either catch up to the people in
front of you, or the people behind you catch up to you.
That did not happen in this cornfield, which I was very
happy about. By the way, the guy at the entrace was
awesome!

Summary
I recommend Spooky Stalks Haunted Cornfield to
anyone looking to get scared and have a lot of fun!
This was one of the best haunted cornfields I have
ever been to! I am definately going back next year!

it was a busy night when we got there. there were actors all around. the one at the road got my friend really good. she went
running ahead of us. once we paid for our wristbands we were walked down to the waiting area with a group of other people
that were waiting as well. once in the waiting area there was a long line but it was very entertaining. there would be actors
walking through the line just scaring people left and right. i remember this one girls was getting chased around the waiting
area. it was really funny up until someone snocked up on me and got me good. my friends didnt even tell me that someone was
behind me until i turned. once it was our turn we were taken out by this one guy that didnt even need to have a mask on. he was
that scary. we went through this one barn and it was insane. there was fog coming all around us and that made it even more
scary because you couldnt tell if there was anyone around you other then your group. there was a vortex and i almost fell
because i thought i was spinning instead. it was fun. towards the end there was an other buliding and we thought we had to go
through it until someone came aout and scared us so much that my friend peed on herself. then (s)he chased us down through
the corn. one the way out we went through the clown area. i am not one that likes clowns too much. so needlesstosay , it wasnt
my faveorite part.

Summary
i really like this cornfield and recommend this to everyone that wants to have a good time and get scared at the same time. they
put a good effort into this place and it is better then last year.

A decent haunted cornmaze. I
understand haunted cornmazes are
difficult because it is still light outside,
so overall I think this was a good one.
The legnth was alright;however, the
scaring was below average.

At first glance, the props in the front yard are amusing. Having "outgrown" the front yard (according to the website), I
expected to see a larger assortment of "spooky" memorabilia and decoration while walking down the path to the ticket
booth. I was very disappointed. The first actor to greet us wasn't very spooky, save the costume, and smoking a cigarette
with customers approaching probably isn't a good idea ...

Now, keep in mind, I am by no means an expert in evaluating the effectiveness of spooky themed venues. I also had two
kids, (8 and 6) with me at the time. If you ask them, they'd say the place was awesome and very scary. My son (the 6
year-old) actually cried. Didn't see that coming because his "fear factor" is normally very low ... I expected my daughter
(the 8 year old) to be the one screaming and what-not ...

After dropping $40 for wristbands, we were led to a greenhouse arbor which was the main entrance to the corn maze.
Inside is was decorated a little better than the front yard or the path leading up to it. We waited approximately 15 minutes
before actually beginning out tour 9even though there were no other customers present). As we were waiting, a group of
teenagers showed up. One girl tried running away while in line because she basically "freaked out" when an actor
carrying a dismembered head prop walked through the main entrance. Now, THAT was funny!

So, we begin our tour and the "head carrying" actor tries to hype it up a bit. He interacted well with the kids and they
seemed genuinely "spooked" at this point and we were still outside the maze!

That said, I didn't think it was dark enough to walk the maze. In hindsight, that's a good thing because even though we
could see most of the actors before they had a chance to scare us, the ambient light made it easier for my son to handle
the "ghouls." Simultaneously, I was disappointed, but I can't blame them for the lighting ...

All told, we walked through in about 45 minutes. There were some cool effects, like the vortex and the "barns" but the
actors scare tactice were very predictable because of the lighting thus reducing the overall "scary" effect.

The actors were however, very diligent recognizing the "fear factor" of the kids though. They actually stopped to talk to
the kids to reassure them that they were normal people and didn't try to scare the kids unless they knew the kids could
handle it. Thanks for that.
Kudos to the "swamp thing" (SPOILER ALERT)outside barn 3 for scaring me. (The one time I totally didn't expect it!)

Well, our first family foray into the "spooky" stuff didn't exactly go as planned, but we still had some wonderful fun. The
staff were friendly, engaging, and the actors were awesome with the kids. I'd consider this venue a family friendly one for
sure and will return when my kids can handle the dark a little bit better.

Summary
Reasonably priced,
Make sure it's dark outside,
could've used a concession area (hot chocolate & coffee go a long way ...),

We went close to the time when the last tickets were being sold so not many people were there , the wait was minimal.
As we entered a ghoul jumped out and definitely scared us because we were not expecting something to come out
before we even bought tickets.
The ghoul did a excellent job at getting us excited for the maze because she/he did a good job at keeping us on our toes
untill it was our turn to go in.
We were expecting to be terrified because before we went in all we could hear was screaming from different parts of the
maze , but we were let down.
Much of the maze was "pop out scares" and got boring quick.
The barns in the haunt were decent but felt undone to me.
The actors were mostly smaller children so i didn't wasn't very scared at small people jumping out at me.
I didn't think it was worth the $10 it costed but thats my opinon. The maze seemed like it was aimed for younger children
to go into.

Summary
Boring actors.
Not much scare.
Need more to the haunt.

A Dead Man's TalesPosted By: Dan

I want to extend a belated thank you to a few haunts for the hospitatlity and good times given to myself, my friends and
family:

Spooky Stalks was great again this year.  We went on a moonless night which made the Milwaukee County corn maze
that much scarier.  Bruce, the owner, put on a fantastic show (even though they aren't that scary, right Bruce?) and even
mustered a a yelp out of a veteran like me.  Good job guys, that's not an easy task!  The maze has new scenes and
scares for 2009 and is definitely worth the short drive up I-45.  Plenty of actors, unique scenes, effective scare tactics
and it's a friggin corn maze in Milwaukee!!  This is a MUST see!!!!  I've attended Spooky Stalks every year since it began
and have never been disappointed.  Big Mike is a maniac and so are you Bruce!  Thanks again for the frights.
